Jonathan studied Illustration & Print at Plymouth College of Art, where he attained a First Class Honours Degree. During this time he found a love for screen-printing and creating large detailed drawings for textile application.

Like most artists, Jon is influenced by his surroundings, and growing up in the rural British countryside on the cliff-sides and rustic beaches of the Isle of Wight.

Much of his work features nature & animals. His initial love of portraiture uncovered an ability and desire to get to the root of someone’s personality and try to tell their tale, from here the idea of subtle narratives started to take their place on the canvas.

Jon has worked in branding, logo design & graphic design for advertisement. He is passionate about design and concept, from detailed photo real drawings to the simplest clean cut logos; it has to look great, feel cohesive and tell the story.

Story telling is usually at the heart of what I do.” He says, and most of his rural feeling images are accompanied by allegorical storytelling and a whimsical twist hidden in his realistic & technical drawings.

“It would be a dream to Illustrate for fabric prints in the fashion world & wallpaper or upholstery. I get quite excited about fabrics and papers for the applications of my work. My inspiration comes many places, I adore Japanese illustrations and the print making processes originally used by the likes of William Morris as well as Victorian botanical illustration.”

As a young rapscallion stranded on an Island, my time is split between writing, performing spoken word, wrestling alligators and delivering uplifting pep talks to hairdressers before they prune me. I meditate and wash daily when possible.
